Transportation Center

Training & Technology Transfer

The backbone of any industry is its human resources. This is certainly true of the transportation industry. Development of the Interstate Highway System and other major construction programs attracted a wealth of talented professionals into the transportation arena throughout the 1950s, 60s, and 70s.

As we move into the 21st century, there is a real concern that the personnel resources available to state DOTs, local governments, contractors and consultants, transportation service providers, and even universities are inadequate. We must do a better job of transferring innovative technology into the work place, and developing the skills of transportation professionals and support personnel.

Transportation Center philosophy emphasizes that research results should be quickly and effectively transmitted into practice. Through a variety of techniques, including seminars, workshops, and short courses, we provide training and distribute information to transportation personnel in local, state, and Federal agencies, as well as to those in private industry.

These are the five areas in the Training and Technology Transfer Division:

Highways and Rail Training Program
