Testing: Previewing Your Document

Table of Contents

Test Viewing the document.

First save your document. Click on the Test button in the document window. Your browser will first load, then read in your document file and display it. For further testings, simply switch back and forth between the browser and HTML Assistant by pressing the ALT key, and, while pressing the ALT key, next pressing the TAB key. You will need to click the Reload or Refresh button on your browser to see your updated document.

HTML Assistant can be configured to automatically save you document before you test it. To do so, in Options menu select "Autosave file before test". However, you will not be able to use the Reload or Refresh button on the browser to view your changes. You will have to close the browser, and reopen it each time you want to view a change.

Viewing multiple documents.

To test a second document after the browser has been opened, you must close the browser. Then click on the Test button in the HTML Assistant document window and the browser will open up and display the new document. Of course, if your previous document has a link to the second document, you do not need to close the browser. While the browser is displaying your first document, click on the link to the new document, and the browser will load it. If it is not the first time that the second document is being viewed you may need to click on the Reload or Refresh button of your browser to view any changes to the second document. Some browsers, like Netscape, will allow several windows to be opened at a time. Click on Reload or Refresh in the appropriate browser window to view changes to a document.

Another way is to use the local file feature of your browser to view your new document. Since many browsers remember a history of where it has been, using the back or forward buttons on the browser will take you to your other documents, where upon clicking the Reload or Refresh button, the latest version of that document will be loaded for your viewing.
